Costa Rica, Caribbean coast: right next to the beach in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, the centre point for south Caribbean coast birding. An excellent choice for eating breakfast, something a little more than the classic, ubiquitous gallopinto con huevos (Tico beans with fried eggs, which they also serve). This bakery, run by Spaniards, offers a wide sleection of pastries including delicious croissants (their speciality) as well as good bread, savoury small pizzas, bocadillos (baguettes) etc.

If you’re missing Spanish food they also have tortilla de patatas (Spanish Omelette), pan de pages (a typical Catalan bread and Spanish cured meats.

The coffee and fresh tropical fruit juices are excellent!

Lonely Birder Establishments

In the north of Ghana, excellent hotel with very good views, in the heart of the Mole National Park. The park has a breathtaking landscape of savanna and at least 300 species of birds and 94 of mammals, It has air conditioning and fan in all rooms. Wifi. Good pool. Good nightlife on weekends. Nightly off-road routes can be arranged for mammals and nocturnal birds.Close to the hotel it is possible to see Pel’s Fishing Owl

MOLE MOTEL

Situated in East Iceland. It is very well located at the end of the fjord near Fáskrúðsfjörður, it is quiet and it is very cheap. The owner was very kind and charming. The house and the rooms at Tunguholt are quite large. There is a kitchen with a fridge, oven, etc. if you want to lunch there. There are a lot of parking space beside the house and it is extremely calm. The house is located at the end of the fjord which makes for a magnificient view Harlequin duck is easy to see near the guesthouse.

Hotel located in Matalascañas, at the gates of the Doñana National Park. Very good location to visit the Natural and National Park, 15 km from Rocío, marsh with lots of birds and good place to see, with luck, the Iberian lynx. The Acebuche Center is located halfway between these two locations and the Doñana beach is fantastic to see waders and seabirds. The hotel consists of several types of rooms, from simple to familiar and from different categories. The founder of the establishment is a great connoisseur of the area and especially of its birds. They have all kinds of documentaries, high quality photographic material of the birds that could be observed. They make special price to birders customers.

DOÑANA BLUES

Hotel located at 2000 m of height in the PN of les Capçeleres del Ter i el Freser, in the Girona Pyrenees. It is also a national hunting reserve, with which you can see other types of fauna, such as chamois, marmots, mouflons, roe deer and foxes, among others. In the forests and meadows you can see alpine birds such as Yellow-hammer, Red-backed Shrike or Black Woodpecker among others. On the peaks of the nearby peaks there is still a good population of snow ptarmigan. Regarding check in, this is usually at 4:00 p.m. If you come as a group you can arrange the theme of breakfasts and meals at certain times, sometimes picnics are requested. In addition to the normal rooms, the hotel has 20 apartments of 4 – 6 seats that allow greater freedom at the time of meals and planned departures. The only access to Vall de Núria is through the rack train that can be taken at Ribes enllaç, Ribes Vila i Queralbs. There is no access for vehicles, hence the charm of the place.

Located at the gates of the National Park of Doi Inthanon, the highest area in Thailand. This park is a must when traveling to the country. Being a high and mountainous area here are many birds that are not seen in other parts of Thailand such as Chestnut-tailed Minla, Green-tailed Sunbird, Rufous-winged Fulvetta, Green Cochoa and many others. The establishment is only one kilometer from the park gates. It has several types of accommodation more basic or luxurious according to the traveler’s preferences. It also has camping, something that is appreciated if you do not have many resources. On the farm there is a spring of mineral water and in the gardens there are good birds more typical of low areas. It has wifi and all the necessary amenities to make the stay as pleasant as possible.
