Situated in the outskirts of St. Louis, this is a good base for birding the Langue de Barbarie or Djoudj National Parks, even though it is about an hour away from them. This is a good hotel with rooms of various categories which range in price from around 43€ for a double to over 100€ for extras and a private garden. The most affordable rooms are neat and clean, without much luxury.
It’s worth exploring the gardens and the pool area birdwatching before breakfast. Beautiful and Scarlet-chested Sunbirds, Grey-backed Camaroptera, Senegal Coucal, Sudan Golden Sparrow, Black Scimitarbill, Western Grey Plantain-eater, Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird, Little Weaver, Little Bee-eater, Senegal Thick-knee and Western Olivaceous Warbler.
Room plus dinner for one person works out at about 47€, a little pricey but the food is of good quality.
If you are just staying the night on your way to the Djoudj, perhaps it’s better to stay in the park accommodation just inside the park entrance. Prices are similar and the quality is appreciably inferior, but being right next to birds at daybreak is important in a country where bird activity is concentrated in the early hours and where driving at night is not a good idea.
