Lugo, Galicia, northwest Spain: a pizzeria next to the promenade to the Cobo de San Ciprian lighthouse, where “Cipriana” the Thayer’s Gull was seen many times. 10 minutes’ drive from the mythical Lago fish factory.
This is the perfect place to eat quickly and hassle-free. Although there are local dishes like zorza (clay-baked seasoned meat) and calamares (squid), it’s probably best to go for the house speciality- pizza and hot grilled sandwiches. Servings are generous and washed down with the fantastic Estrella de Galicia beer on tap they give you a perfect refuelling for hours more gull-watching! The waitress is really nice and the establishment has loads of windows from which to watch passing gulls.
