Extremadura, Spain: situated right in the heart of the Monfrague National park in Villareal de San Carlos. From here signed trails leave and wind through the park. The best of Iberian Mediterranean woodland fauna is found in Monfrague: large colonies of Eurasian Black and Griffon Vulture, as well as important species like Egyptian Vulture, Black Stork and several pairs each of Bonelli’s, Golden and Spanish Imperial Eagles. Iberian Azure-winged Magpie, Blue Rock Thrush, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and Hawfinch are all very common here.
The rural lodge “El Mirador de Monfrague” is a slate house that holds a total of 12 places, in two independent apartments: “El Salto de Gitano” and “El Castillo de Monfrague” (6 places in each).
There is a restaurant with typical regional food served with a modern twist (Restuarante Las Habazas).
