Jackal, Striped Hyena, Jungle cat, Rusty-spotted cat, Langur, Porcupine, Indian hare & Pangolin are among the other mammals of Gir National Park. There are about more than 300 type of birds in Gir National Park make it Heaven for Birders & Ornithologist. Located in Pedroveya, next to the desfiladero of Xanas, just 30 min. from the Natural Park of Las Ubinas-La Mesa. Although you can get to this site from Oviedo, a good alternative is to walk through the desfiladero de Xanas from Villanueva to arrive hungry. They serve a daily menu at 13€ per person and 15€ at the weekends. Portions are very large so we suggest that if you go with some friends you can choose different dishes so you will have a fun tasting lunch. They offer 3 starters (fish soup, pote and fabada) and 3 main courses (goat, beef and wild boar). Very nice food at a good quality/price value. Desserts are also homemade. Pets are allowed.
Colombia: in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the highest coastal mountain range in the world and full of endemics, in fact with the highest number of endemisms in one place in South America. Definitely a must for anyone interested in ornithology. This hotel is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and has hummingbird feeders in the garden, delicious food and wonderful service by the hosts. There are 14 rooms with private bathrooms (4 doubles, 2 twins, 1 triple, a room for 4 and another for 5). Nearby is the El Dorado Reserve, with 19 endemics! You can see Santa Marta Parakeet, Yellow-crowned Whitestart, Santa Marta warbler, Santa Marta Bush-tyrant, Brown-rumped Tapaculo, Santa Marta Screech-owl, Santa Marta antpitta and Rusty-headed Spinetail here amongst many other species.
