This lodge is run by one of the best bird guides in the country, Robert Chong. As well as knowing all the species in the area, he’s the only person who can give you a reasonable chance of seeing Bornean Ground Cuckoo (Carpococcyx radiceus), the star bird here and one of the most difficult to see in Borneo. A walk with Robert offers guests a great opportunity to learn Bornean bird calls and songs. You can aslo see Orangutang, Proboscis Monkey, Asian Elephant, Saltwater Crocodile and Asian water Monitor.
You get there by boat from Bilit. Special boat trips leave to observe birds of the Kinabatangan river three times a day, morning, noon and night. The lodge is basic but comfortable and the food (buffet style Malay dishes) is very good. The price is a little high at 120€ per person per night but it is worth it.
