Romania: situated in the small village of Magura at 1000m asl and a good option if you are visiting the Piatra Craiuli National Park in the southeast Carpathians. A charming hotel whose owners are committed to conservation (www.cntours.eu).
The village is surrounded by thousands of hectares of pastures with a huge biodiversity thanks to the traditional hand-scything method of cutting hay, respecting plant pollination times. The best time to vist for flowering plants is before hay-cutting at the beginning of July, when you can see up to 20 species of orchid in a single walk.
From here you can visit the Zarnesti Gorge, where you can visit a hide to view Brown Bear (up to 10 individuals including cubs).
The hotel is really comfortable and its location for enjoying nature is exceptional. It isn’t recommended to leave the hotel at night because the surrounding countryside is the haunt of bears.
