Northern Thailand: on the outskirts of Chiang Saen, on the Mekong river (in the famous Golden Triangle) and 30 minutes away from Lake Chiang Saen, an excellent place to watch waterbirds, the standout species being Baer’s Pochard.
This establishment is noteworthy for its good location on the banks of the Mekong, and although it’s right on the edge of a chaotic city, there are numerous places to eat within a short walking distance.
There are various room options and prices. If you can choose, room M3 is recommended for its views over the river (although partly covered by vegetation). Simple but spacious, with two double beds and large and rather unusual bathroom with the shower floor covered in rounded stones (making a shower here something between kitsch and uncomfortable!) and aircon.
On our stay there was only cold water available, not so much of a problem thanks to the suffocating temperatures. Quality/ price ratio is very good, the said room cost 5550 Baht (in 2010).
Free WiFi and parking on premises.
