Situated in dense tropical rainforeat in far North Queensland, 30 mins by car from Cairns (which has an airport).
This may be the place in Australia where you have the best chance of seeing Southern Cassowary as well as a good selection of North Queensland endemics like Lesser Sooty Owl, and Victoria´s Riflebird. It´s also a very good site for Red-necked Crake (the sole site in Australia) and Noisy Pitta.
The cassowaries often visit the water drips and bird tables around the house. If you’re lucky you can get very close to these prehistric birds as you have breakfast on the terrace.
This establishment has conventional rooms and apartment-style cottages with kitchens. Prices range from 150AUD for the former and 110AUD for the latter.
The owners are keen birders and they can recommend the best sites to see local species and give you a hand with their i-d.
