Zapata Peninsula, Cuba: 90km from Verdadero and 142km from Havana on the national highway, this accommodation is situated in the south central part of Matanzas Province.
The house is very simple, but is run by Mileydis who looked after me very well. On finding out I was interested in birdwatching she offered information as she had previously worked as a guide in the nearby Natural Park. She knew the guides in the rea, so her recommendations were spot-on. You can see Cuba´s national bird, the Tocororo (Cuban Trogon), Cartacuba (Cuban Tody), Zunzuncito (Bee Hummingbird, the smallest bird in the world), Zunzun (Cuban Emerald), Siju Platanero (Cuban Pygmy Owl) and many more.
There are two triple bedrooms with bathroom. They are small and there are some mosquitoes but they have aircon. The breakfast is good and dinner is possible on request. There is a small swimming pool which is not always available. Nearby there are some restaurants and a beach, Playa Larga, but the most interesting is the nearby Zapata Marsh Park and possibilities for snorkelling.
